What is an Emotional Support Animal?

An emotional support animal (ESA) provides therapeutic benefits to people with mental health or psychiatric disabilities, helping with conditions like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Unlike service animals, ESAs don’ require specific training and any type of animal can be an ESA including your current pet. To qualify, you must consult a licensed mental health professional for an ESA letter, and follow all state laws.
